Small Group 5

Every Tuesday, Saturday from 09/12/2017 to 09/30/2017

Location: First Presbyterian Church, 1111 5th Ave North, Fort Dodge, IA US 50501

Our Small Group: Projects and Maintenance has been meeting and working already. Maybe you have noticed the several new plantings with mulch in the CLC parking area, the refreshed mulch around the Prayer Garden, or the mulch around a tree outside the Commons.

The first project was a “heavy” project, where the next one will be an endurance project, and we could use more small group hands to help out. The original wing’s windows and trim are in need of a lot of TLC—that’s tender loving care. The window putty needs replacing in some areas, and then the windows and trim all need to be primed and painted. This isn’t heavy work, but if you’ve looked at those windows recently, you remember they are made of scores of individual panes!

We will start on the south side and work on the basement, first floor and second floor windows. Our meeting dates and times so far are as follows:

Tuesday, September 12, 8:30AM  – 11:30 AM, and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Saturday, September 16, 9:00 AM to Noon, and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Tuesday, September, 26 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Saturday, September 30, 9:00 AM to Noon, and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

We have to clean out the basement window areas of leaves and plants before we start on the windows. We’ll remove any broken putty, then re-glaze those windows. Then we will apply painter’s tape around all the panes (that’s the real pain!), sand, and prime the dividers and wood trim. Finally, we will paint it all with a light gray paint. The primer and paint will be oil-based, so it’ll be a bit more messy than latex, and neatness counts more than speed. There are basement, ground floor, first floor (up eight feet), and second floor (up 20 feet) rows of windows. This project has something for everyone.

I already have a short list of interested small group people, but this project may be so compelling that there are others who really want to get in on the action. After all, the small groups are really about getting together.  If you are so moved to help out on any of the time slots, please contact Rick Maehl by phone  or email at . There is also a mailbox slot for this small group outside the church office where you can find a “Count Me In! note that you can complete and leave in the box. To those who have or will sign up, I’ll be sending out tools lists before the first meeting date. Thank you.
