Since I’ve last written, we’ve all experienced an amazing day. In fact, this isn’t just an amazing day; it’s the most amazing day we get every year.

The day when Daylight Savings Time ends.

It’s the day that gives a gift to everybody, regardless of background. Rich and poor, young and old, male and female, black and white, procrastinator and organized, everybody receives the gift of one extra hour.

Unless you live in Arizona.

So what did you do with that extra hour? Did you claim it on Sunday morning by sleeping in for an extra hour? Did you claim it on Saturday night, staying up later with family or friends? Did you use it get some extra house work done?

Many of us claim that we don’t have enough time in life. “I’d exercise every day if I had the time,” we say. Or “I never have a good time in my day to pray.” Or “I feel like I always have to choose between getting my work done or being with my family.”

I wish I could tell you that I used my extra hour for more sleep, crafting a better sermon, being with my family longer, or working on the household chores I “never have time to do.”

I spent that hour on the internet.

Two days later, I can’t even tell you specifically how I used that hour, that most precious and finite resource, extra time.

When we consider Sabbath – devoting less time for work, producing, and consuming, and more time for observing how God’s at work around us – I wonder, “Is a lack of time really the issue?”
