This last Sunday was our last Sabbath Sunday of the year. During the service, we discussed Psalm 90:12. Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Sabbath is an opportunity for us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Numbering our days is an interesting thing. We don’t know the number of days before us. We only know the days behind us, the days we’ve been given. So the only days we can number are those which have already passed. On the day I write this, I have lived for 11,664 days. Tomorrow will be day number 11,665. There will only be one day 11,664 for me, for you.

When we number our days, we are forced to face our priorities. We ask ourselves where we are headed, and what resources we have. We consider our finite nature and the truth that we all have a limited number of days.

So I leave you with seven questions to consider in order to make the most of your day. Perhaps you could make it a practice to ask one or some of these every day when you wake up.

  1. Whose life am I going to brighten today?
  2. What three things am I most grateful for today?
  3. What memories am I going to create today?
  4. What challenge am I going to overcome today?
  5. What value am I going to create today?
  6. How much joy can I create for others and myself today?
  7. What life-changing decision(s) am I going to make today?

Blessings,
