Sara's Update 12/6

Posted by Sara Hill on

Sara’s article: As the moderator of the Presbytery, I get to chose a theme for the year. This theme is woven through our Pastor to the Presbytery’s sermons and throughout our Presbytery worship services. I chose the theme “finding joy.” When I think about finding joy, I think about being intentional about finding the moments of grace in everyday life.

This theme has been percolating in my life over the last few years: as the verses about joy have leapt off of the pages of the Psalms in my morning devotions, as one of my go-to blogs is entitled “finding joy,” as I read Ann Voskamp’s book One Thousand Gifts and led the subsequent study, and as I went to the Board of Pension’s CREDO conference and discerned that one of my goals was to have more joy in my life. Where are moments of joy breaking through in your life?

As moderator, on December 3rd I moderated the administrative commission to commission Elder Diane Martin as Commissioned Pastor serving in First Presbyterian Church, Ackley. I also moderated a called meeting of the Presbytery on December 11th to fill the slate of nominees for Presbytery committees in 2018. My work will continue in January. May each of you have a joyful and merry Christmas and new year.

Joy,

Sara
